For many years Raoul’s eldest brother Vianney also helped around the mill. Nowadays he acts more as a consultant. Among other things, he points out the mill mechanism that was installed in 1882 under supervision of great-grandfather Joseph Célestin Gaspard Schyns. “It still works perfectly; it’s both romantic and authentic. But in those days this mechanism was very modern. Later generations modernized as well, to this very day. That is why the Commandeursmolen is ‘alive’”, says the chemical engineer from Slenaken who likes to read and to keep up his pond with koi carp.
